Oswald Farms is a fourth-generation family farm and ranch based just outside of Rockvale, Montana  (basically it’s a flashing light at the split in the highway).  Our beef products are proudly served at the Edgar Bar, one of Montana’s premiere Steakhouses.  

In 1946, Orlyn and Mavis Oswald purchased their farm in Carbon County, where the headquarters remain today.  Both born and raised in the Broadview area, the farms of their upbringings were prone to drought, hail, and extra large mosquitos — making the relocation appealing. After extensive research on Orlyn’s part, he chose our current location, hoping the mountain would split large storms before they hit the farm. It was there Orlyn and Mavis spent their years building one of the nation’s largest Registered Shorthorn herds of the time and their barn sign proudly read, “Headquarters for Hindquarters.”

Since then, each generation has taken the farm and ranch in their own direction.  Malyn and Debbie Oswald (Orlyn and Mavis’ son and daughter in-law) focused mainly on farming with a small herd of cattle.

In the mid 90’s, Malyn and Debbie’s sons, Justin and Jason, came home to farm and still operate it today with their wives, Melissa and Nicky, along with Justin and Melissa’s children when they have time off from their jobs.  Today, Oswald Farms consists of both a farming operation and a cattle operation that focuses on raising farm-to-table beef.  

We had always kept a handful of calves after weaning to finish for friends and family and in April 2018, we made our first delivery of beef to the Edgar Bar.  As that partnership grew, we eventually quit selling calves at the sale barn, funneling them all into the beef business.  The cattle are all finished right here on our farm with feed we grow.  In the fall of 2022, we opened the Oswald Farms Beef store on our farm where customers can purchase anything from a package of hamburger or one steak, all the way up to an entire beef.

We pride ourselves in producing the BEST beef around.  All of our beef is 100% MONTANA raised and is processed LOCALLY at a USDA inspected processing facility.  We sell our beef as individual cuts, custom packages, quarter, halves or wholes.
